Festbier vs Marzen
There is a ton of content out there describing the differences between the Festbier Style and the Marzen. That said, for those unacquainted , here is a brief history: 🏰 Medieval Brewing Laws: Why Märzen Exists at All Before refrigeration, brewing in Bavaria was legally restricted to the cold months (roughly September–April). Warm‑weather brewing was banned because beer spoiled easily and fires from boiling kettles were more common in summer. This created a problem: people s

I'm fascinated by this rebranding of Hamm's Beer to the old 1960-70s Design!
I remember this label growing up in Chicago! My brother can acknowledge my claim that this beer can design (or possibly Miller Genuine Draft) were likely the first beer cans we saw in Dad's downstairs beer fridge. This was Dad's beverage fridge and meat freezer mostly and thankfully for my brother and I there was often so much beer in there, no one would notice if a can or two disappeared every once in awhile. ;) I recall liking most of the American Macro beers that I tried

Summer Hoppy Lager
Summer is here in NC in full force: 100F today with added humidity making it feel like 107F. Time for a nice easy drinking refreshing lager. But not just your average everyday lager - how about something that tastes more like a west coast IPA but is lower ABV and easier to drink several of on a hot summer day? Enter the west coast pils...or india pale lager...or cold IPA...or...what the heck are we supposed to call these beers? I know...how about, delicious! Hoppy lagers

Shankbier?
OK, I thought I was aware of every German and Austrian beer style...until now! I was shopping at my favorite craft beer store and saw this one from Schilling, one of my absolute favorite US craft lager breweries out of New Hampshire. I had never heard of this style but figured that if it was from Schilling it has to be good! This one did not disappoint. At just 3.7%, I found this beer to be an excellent choice for weekday drinking or anytime you are looking for a light

Spring Saison - 2026 edition
If you look at my posts over the past few years you will see that I always brew a saison in the spring but tweak the recipe, hop additions, or other variables each time. This year I decided to start experimenting with Abstrax hops as a dry-hopping substitute. The recipe was pretty similar to last year https://share.brewfather.app/q9yP85RoYvp530 . A simple malt bill of pilsner with small additions of light crystal, white wheat, and a touch of rye. Hopped on the hot side wi
