Beer Travels Day 8

"Final half day in Munich before heading back to the Flughafen (airport). We found some epic beer to-go for the plane and had a beer as well (of course)..."

Day 8 - Farewell to Munich

Our final day in Munich began with a little beer shopping spree. We picked up bottles of Augustiner Edelstoff and the seasonal Augustiner Oktoberfestbier to bring back home — a taste of Bavaria to extend the journey beyond Germany.

We took one last walk through Marienplatz, soaking in the atmosphere of the old city before heading to Schneider Weisse. We grabbed a table outside on a sunny, cool morning. There, we savored two fitting farewell beers: a crisp Helles and a refreshing Weisse — classics that captured Munich’s brewing soul. The helles was top tier, outstanding!

At the airport, travel reality set in. John's bag tipped over the weight limit, forcing him to ditch some clothes on the fly in order to keep the beers in the check-in bag and stay under the weight limit! Greg discovered (too late) that one last bottle of Edelstoff had been hiding in the carry-on backpack. Sadly, it couldn’t make the flight with us. Even the TSA guy said you should go back out, drink the beer quickly then re-enter security rather than discarding this awesome beer.... LOL but It's unclear whether he was kidding or not.

Before boarding, we raised one final Prost: a Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier at the gate. It was in bottles but tasted very fresh with a bready backbone and a decent hop bite. Outstanding! It felt like a proper goodbye toast to Bavaria, closing out a week filled with mountains, monasteries, steins, sausages, and stories we’ll carry forever. Prost! 🍻✈️

Or so we thought..... Our plane was delayed leaving Munich and Chicago O'Hare had limited gates upon arrival so we ended up missing our connection to Phoenix that evening. Making the most of the situation, we took an Uber to Giordano's Pizza near the airport for an epic stuffed pizza and the outstanding Anti-Hero West Coast IPA from Revolution brewing. The airline put us up at a nearby hotel and we departed early the next morning for home. What a great trip :)
